The Grainger County Humane Society
is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization that was formed May 10, 2001. Our mission is to promote humane treatment of
domestic animals, educate the public about their responsibility of
providing treatment and care, and to help control the pet population to
ensure the well being of domestic animals in our community.

The Grainger County Humane Society
receives NO funding from our local government or other outside
sources. The humane society exists on donations from private
individuals and businesses, and volunteer effort. We DO NOT
have an animal shelter or an Animal Control Officer at this time.
All work is done by volunteers. A Spay/Neuter
Clinic is our immediate goal. A Shelter/Adoption
Facility and an Animal Control
officer are part of our long term goals.

|
At
present, the number one goal of GCHS is to solve the overpopulating pet
problem in Grainger County. This is a three prong approach that requires a
good spay and neuter program, community education, and the support of
legislators and law enforcement.
We
are working hard to combat the stray animal population with our Rural Area
Veterinary Services (RAVS) clinics, our
low cost community spay/neuter clinics in conjunction with
Prevent A Litter (PAL) Mobile, and our continuous spay and neuter
program.

Although
we do not have an animal shelter, we do have a pet fostering program which
works to care for stray and abandoned animals and find placements in
loving homes. |

Yes,
we've accomplished a great deal, but we still have a long way to go.
Caring for abused or abandoned pets is expensive and takes time. We can
always use new members and donations. |
