Spay/Neuter Events

Please Note:

All animals brought to Grainger County Humane Society

events must be on a leash or confined in a carrier or cage.

The Grainger County Humane Society holds spay and neuter clinics in Grainger County several times a year at various locations. Below are listed the descriptions of the various clinics and upcoming events which have been scheduled. Also below, is information and application form for the Continuous Spay / Neuter program for low income households.

Description:

Next Event:

Male Cat Neuter Clinic:

The Male Cat Neuter Clinic is usually held on a Saturday and usually during the warmer months.  This clinic is for male cats only and is open to all households, regardless of income.  Feral or "wild" cats can be neutered at this clinic as long as they are brought in carriers or "live trap" cages.  These include cats affectionately known as "barn cats" for some people.  The cost for this clinic averages $25.00 per cat.  Reduced cost vaccinations are also available at these clinics.

The last clinic was held in Rutledge August 6th, 2005.

Another clinic has not been scheduled at this time.

Is your Tom a Sex Offender?

He may not look like one, but if he's not neutered, he will stray and get cats pregnant.  There's still time to get him released on good behavior if you get him neutered.

PAL Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic:

PAL stands for "Prevent A Litter".  The PAL Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic is a reduced cost clinic open to all households. This is usually a one or two day clinic held at various locations using a mobile spay/neuter facility.  The cost for this clinic averages $49 per dog and $39 per cat.  These clinics are PRE-PAID and non-refundable.  Reduced cost vaccinations and other basic wellness services are also available at these clinics.

The July Clinics were canceled due to mechanical problems.

The next clinics are August 19th & 20th, 2008 in Bean Station.

Please contact Nonna at 865-497-3066 for details and an application for the Bean Station clinics and contact Marge (423-733-8927) for information on the Sneedville Clinics.

Continuous Spay / Neuter Program

for low income households:

The Grainger County Humane Society maintains a limited fund to assist qualifying low income families in spaying and neutering their pets.  Procedures are performed by participating local veterinarians at no cost to the qualifying pet owner.  Applications for this program may be submitted at anytime.  A household income under $19,000 qualifies Grainger County residents for this program.

Funds from the TN Animal Friendly Grant Program also help us to Spay/Neuter pets of qualifying low income household.

Applications may be submitted to GCHS at anytime.

Qualifying applicants are selected as funds are available.

RAVS Spay/Neuter Clinic:

RAVS (Remote Area Veterinary Services) and HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) operate a free spay/neuter and pet wellness clinic in rural areas for qualifying low income households.  These clinics rely on volunteer support of veterinarians, technicians and veterinary students.  Grainger County Humane Society has been fortunate to host these clinics for the past several years.  These clinics are usually held in the spring at various locations in the county.

The last clinic was held in Blaine June 11th and 12th, 2005.

Another clinic has not been scheduled at this time for Grainger County but a clinic will be held in Claiborne County May 30th, 31st and June1st 2008.

"Catch-A-Cat" Feral Cat Clinic

This clinic is for feral (wild) cats and colony cats (groups living in an area with a caretaker providing food, water, and shelter).  Modeled after similar programs, the focus is to spay/neuter, vaccinate, and to identify feral cats that have been altered by trimming the left ear (removing the tip of the left ear).  A feral cat that has had the left ear "tipped" is assumed to be altered and rabies vaccinated.  This provides a visual identification without having to trap the cat again or handle the cat unnecessarily.   Cats must be trapped the day before or morning of the clinic and will be returned to caretakers in the traps.

A formal community clinic has not been arranged but GCHS is available to work with individual colonies as needed.  The last colony worked with was in Bean Station in June 2007.

PAL Pet Wellness Clinic:

Occasionally, GCHS will sponsor a Pet Wellness Clinic with the PAL mobile unit.  These are not spay/neuter clinics, but are a reduced cost general wellness clinic for pets.  Services offered at these clinics are limited to vaccinations, heartworm testing, feline leukemia and FIV testing, deworming, and parasite control.  Similar to the Rabies Vaccination Clinics held in the spring, these clinics offer only limited services and routine vaccinations and testing for otherwise healthy animals.  Animals exhibiting obvious illness or in need of other care will be referred to local veterinarians.

The last Pet Wellness clinic was November 12th, 2005 in Blaine.

Another clinic has not been scheduled at this time.

The forms below are general applications for all spay/neuter events.  The RAVS and Continuous Spay/Neuter programs require applicants to submit income documentation to qualify for these clinics.  All applicants are encouraged to apply early as all clinics and programs are limited to a certain number of animals.  Although more than one pet may be enrolled in any program, GCHS reserves the right to limit the number of  animals allowed per household depending on space available.  Applications will be held for another upcoming clinic if the current program is full or until the animal in question has been spayed or neutered.  Our goal is to provide assistance to as many households as possible, in a timely manner, as funds are available.
